2008 Aquathlon Series

2007 Aquathlon Series
Rankings

Youth
triathlonscotland actively encourages young people to participate in triathlon. We run frequent training camps for our youth and junior squads and arrange transport to major races, helped by grants from SportScotland.

Our athletes and teams have had numerous successes over the past few years, with the Scottish Youth Team consistently doing well at the GB Inter-Regional Youth Triathlon Champs, winning this twice and never being out of the top 4. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Scottish Squads then take a look at our selection criteria and associated points table located under the performance section of the website.

Categories:

Events break youths and juniors down into the following categories:
8 years
9-10 years
11-12 years
13-14 years
15-16 years
Under 20

Age is taken on the 31st December of the year of competition.

Athletes who are interested should try and make it to events in triathlonscotland's aquathlon series throughout the country where we look out for future talent.

2008 Mazda Aquathlon League

The Aquathlon League is kindly sponsored by Mazda and supported by Sports Match. Their commitment will make an excellent contribution to raising the profile of the sport throughout the country and provide a fantastic entry point for young people into the sport.. ,strong>triathlonscotland launched the Youth Aquathlon Series in 2001. The aim was to introduce children from the age of 8 years up to the age of 16 years to a multi-discipline activity hopefully leading them on and into the sport of triathlon. An Aquathlon itself is a swim/run event, the exact distances for which depend on your age:
Age Swim Run
8 years 50m 600m
9–10 years 150m 1500m
11–12 years 250m 2000m
13–14 years 400m 3000m
15–16 years 400m 3000m

Events will use these distances or get as close as possible to them, the nature of some venues and safety considerations may mean that it in not possible to get the exact distance. Each event organiser will be able to advise you on the distances at their event.

Since it began the League has been expanded and developed each year. More race organisers have come on board and 2007 saw over 520 children taking part across 9 events. This year the League is expanding again, to 15 events in total. There is a PDF file at the left of this page with the full listing, or go to the events section of the website.

The League has provided up and coming athletes the opportunity to compete against each other on a regular basis, meet and make new friends, as well as creating an avenue for them to demonstrate their potential future talent.

In addition to the League events, the first 3 competitors in each category will get the chance to come to one of two Mazda Talent Development days being organised. These will be one day coaching events where they receive input from qualified coaches, take part in fun activities and also get the chance to meet some of Scotland’s best Elite athletes.

Points Scoring

Overall positions in the League will be decided using the competitors best 4 events, in terms of individual scoring. Competitors need 4 events to get a final place in the League competition, those with less than 4 events will not get a final placing.

Certificates will be issued to those completing 4 or more events.

Points will be awarded equally at all events. 10 points for first, 9 for second and so on down to 1. Every competitor will receive at least 1 point.

In the event of a tie in the League standings at the end of the season, both competitors will be declared as winners or whatever position they tied for.

For example if we have an athlete with 36 points, then 2 with 34 points then 1 with 33 points, then there will be 2 second place awards to the athletes with 34 points, the athlete with 33 will be listed as 4th. The rankings can be found on the rankings section of the website under Junior.

The rankings can be found on the rankings section of the website under Junior.

Club competition

Competitors points will also be used for the club competition. Points will be earned only for clubs affiliated to triathlonscotland. Competitors will earn points only for the club they nominate at the start of the year when they join triathlonscotland or the club nominated at their first race. All points earned will go towards this club. If no club is nominated on joining or at the first race then points cannot be attributed to a club at a later date.

Aquathlon Cup
Individuals winning their category / age group on the day will become the Scottish Aquathlon Cup Champion and get a trophy, whilst also getting 10 points towards the League competition in the normal fashion. Those finishing 2nd & 3rd will receive medals.

Further details on each event can be found by contacting the race organisers directly.
